Taking care of the Duomo is an enormous responsibility, as it requires constant care and complex maintenance. In recent years, the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano has planned various restoration activities in order to complete the most urgent structural work on the Monument. The International Patrons of Duomo di Milano Inc. collaborates with the Veneranda Fabbrica in sustaining this challenge.
Donations through International Patrons of Duomo di Milano can be made by those residing in the United States of America, who can take advantage of the relative tax exemption provided by Law. If you would like to support the Duomo restorations but you’re not resident in the U.S.A. we invite you to donate through the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano website. Click HERE

15,800 Notes for the Duomo
Built in 1938, with 15,800 pipes, 5 consoles, 196 organ stops and 3,000 phonic combinations, the Duomo di Milano Great Organ is the largest one in Italy, ranking second in Europe for the number of pipes and stops, and is among the fifteen largest organs in the world. However, its functioning is currently threatened by several factors of deterioration. The result of this, leaves it almost impossible to play the stops of one of the main bodies of the instrument.

Get your spire
Rich in ornaments and statues, the spires are amongst some of the Cathedral’s most characteristic architectural elements, if not the most iconic. Typically slender in structure and reaching up to the sky, the spires are rather fragile elements as well as being the most exposed to atmospheric agents. The subtle texture of the pink Candoglia marble suffers; in fact, the effects of pollution and changes in temperature combined with infiltration cause extrusion of the marble and oxidation of the oldest iron support dowels. It is for this reason that the spires require constant care and complex renovation.

ADAM (digital-Archiving Duomo Archive Museum)
In order to pass the Archive priceless heritage on to future generations, the Veneranda Fabbrica has embarked on this ambitious digitalisation project. Digitalising this immense heritage allows for a quicker, more detailed and less invasive consultation, first and foremost for the Duomo’s work site, which is involved on a daily basis in restoration and maintenance work. More generally, the project makes the Duomo’s history more accessible by extending to all the opportunity to become acquainted with and to consult each contribution that led to the construction of the Cathedral.
